August 12, 2021 – Portland, Oregon


Around 3:30pm an Officer was flagged down in the 500 block of Southwest 3rd Avenue. The Officer was told a suspect had punched a coffee shop employee and walked off. Officers learned the suspect had committed a robbery, stealing a drink, and then punching an employee, who challenged him. He then stole her phone. She suffered serious facial cuts and bruising. Officers were able to locate the suspect and tried to take him into custody near Northwest Naito Parkway and Northwest Pine Street. The suspect waited for Officers to approach, then assaulted them by punching all three of them in their faces, causing cuts and bruising. He was eventually taken into custody after a struggle and use of Tasers.
A Quilts for Cops volunteer hand delivered the quilts to let these Officers know we care.

July 25, 2021 – Bakersfield, California

Around 1pm the Kern County Sheriff’s Office began receiving 911 calls from 1718 1st St, in Wasco, Ca. The 911 callers were reporting a male subject was armed with a firearm and shooting subjects in the residence, along with loud verbal arguments. Deputies arrived and were met in the front by a female who said there were two to three shooting victims inside the residence. Deputies approached the residence, and a suspect began shooting at them from inside the residence. Deputies were not struck at that time and took cover. They set up a perimeter around the house and requested the SWAT team respond, along with additional units and the California Highway Patrol.
As the SWAT team began arriving, they set up a quick react team to attempt to make entry into the house to rescue the shooting victims inside. SWAT team members approached the residence and as they were walking up to the front door, the suspect began shooting at them.
Two SWAT operators were struck by the suspect, and two other SWAT operators were hit by shrapnel from the suspect. SWAT team members pulled the injured Deputies to safety and began rendering medical aid.
Despite lifesaving efforts, Deputy Phillip Campas succumbed to his injuries. We send out condolences to the family and department for their loss.
The additional SWAT member who was transported to the hospital was Deputy Dizander Guerrero.

July 24, 2021 – Belmont Hills, Pennsylvania

Fire crews from Belmont Hills Fire Company and Gladwyne Fire Company responded to a crash around 3:15am in the westbound lanes of the Schuykill Expressway near Waverly Road. After they arrived at the scene, another vehicle drove up the right shoulder and crashed into the first accident scene, striking four of the first responders.

July 28, 2021 – New Ulm, Minnesota

About 2:15am Deputy Justin Bauer was responding to a call about suspicious activity at a farm in Sleepy Eye, west of Mankato. He was traveling at a slower speed due to fog when he hit cattle in the middle of 280th Avenue.
Deputy Bauer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the New Ulm Medical Center.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office
July 23, 2021 -Ukiah, California

Deputies were informed around 1:45am when a reporting party heard gunshots, checked out the property where the gunshots originated, and came across a male visibly injured. The reporting party told dispatch he was going to go back and check on the person and found them no longer breathing. Deputies were dispatched to the scene; information was provided by the reporting party that the property where the decedent was located had upwards of 4-5 subjects on it and was an active cannabis farm. Around 3:00am Deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed the male was deceased from a gunshot wound. As law enforcement investigated the property, a Deputy saw a subject running down a canyon. During the chase to find the subject one Deputy had a fall and was taken to the hospital for a broken bone.

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office
July 25, 2021 – Crowley, Louisiana

Approximately 12:15pm Deputies responded to a residence on Kathy Meadows Lane in Crowley in reference to a subject wanted for questioning in a homicide investigation by the Jennings Police Department. Deputies also discovered that same subject had an active warrant out of Acadia Parish. Upon encountering the subject at his apartment, a Deputy was shot.

July 17, 2021 – Madison, Ohio

Officers were called out just after midnight to I-90 in Madison to help Parma Police with a pursuit. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted. Suspects in a fleeing vehicle shot at Parma Officers. Troopers tried to stop the car with tire deflation road spikes, but the vehicle continued to flee at high speeds. The vehicle was finally stopped after Officer Jesse Cudnik deployed stop stick tire deflation spikes which popped the remaining tires.
Officer Cudnik was injured when he deployed the stop sticks.

Dewey Beach Police Department
July 24, 2021 – Dewey Beach, Delaware

Around 8pm a suspect was acting disorderly at the Starboard Restaurant and was removed by the staff. While being escorted off the property, the suspect assaulted a staff member and fled South on Coastal Highway where a Dewey Beach Police Officer observed him. The Officer attempted to detain the suspect for the assault, but a foot chase ensued which ended at the intersection of Bellevue Street and Coastal Highway. An off-duty Officer from the New Castle County Delaware Police observed the interaction and attempted to assist the Dewey Beach Officer. Next two unknown males pulled the off-duty Officer from the altercation, and moments later suspect struck the Dewey Beach Police Officer rendering him unconscious.
Both Officers were transported to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes for their injuries. The off-duty officer was treated for facial lacerations and released.
The Dewey Beach Police Officer was admitted to the medical center for a head injury.

July 18, 2021 – Clarksville, Tennessee

Around 2:30am Deputies were directing traffic while Tennessee Department of Transportation workers cleared debris from the Hwy 149. A motorist going west in a car swerved to the left and hit an unoccupied TDOT truck and Deputy Cody Evans who was outside his patrol vehicle.
Deputy Evans was transported to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville.

July 15, 2021 – Levelland, Texas

Police received a call in the early afternoon about a neighbor who was acting strangely and walking around with what appeared to be a large gun. As Officers arrived, they noticed a pickup truck in the driveway that was reported by a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper earlier in the day. The driver of the car at the time was driving recklessly, and "appeared to be trying to bait" the trooper into some type of confrontation.
The Officers did not immediately approach the residence but tried to contact the suspect. Within minutes after contact, the suspect opened the front door and began firing at Officers. SWAT was called in and shortly after those additional shots fired.
Sadly, Sgt Josh Bartlett, leader of the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office tactical unit, died at the Lubbock hospital. We send our condolences to the family and department.
Two other deputies, one from Lubbock County and one from Hockley County, were in critical condition.
Sgt Shawn Wilson was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
We provide this quilt to Sgt Wilson to give him comfort while he recovers.

July 11, 2021 – Elkton, Maryland

Around 3:30pm Officers responded to a call about a fight in progress at the Chesapeake Ridge apartments. A suspect shot at responding law enforcement.
Deputy Kevin Shumaker was shot in the arm. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

July 9, 2021 – Fort Meade, Maryland

About 9pm an Officer in was involved in a two-car crash on Annapolis Road near Disney Avenue.
The Officer was in serious condition and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

July 10, 2021 - Portland, Oregon

Deputies responded to reports of a physical fight at the Troutdale resort involving approximately four men and three women. People were “extremely intoxicated,” refused to leave the property, and threatened staff. When a Deputy arrived on the scene to break up the brawl in the parking lot, the customers hit him on the face several times until he became unconscious. The group continued to fight with other Deputies until all the individuals were detained.
The Deputy who was knocked unconscious was brought to the hospital with head injuries.

July 6, 2021 – DeSoto County, Mississippi

According to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Caelan Coyle was on duty in his patrol car when he was involved in a crash at Pleasant Hill and Church Road.
Deputy Coyle suffered serious injuries and was treated at Regional One Hospital in Memphis.
We provide this quilt to give Deputy Coyle comfort while he recovers.

East Point Police Department
July 29, 2021 - East Point, Georgia


Two East Point Police Officers were responding to a suspicious person’s call at the East Point Post Office. When they arrived, the Officers confronted the suspect. A violent physical quarrel with the suspect occurred and both Officers suffered injuries.
Both officers have been taken to Grady Hospital for treatment.
A Quilts for Cops volunteer delivered the quilts to Captain Drake for delivery to these Officers.

Eugene Police Department
July 1, 2021 – Eugene, Oregon

Around 3pm Officers were called to the Home Depot on Seneca Road in west Eugene for a report of a man stealing tools. During the arrest of the suspect, another man began heckling the Officers and interfered with the arrest. One Officer attempted to get the second suspect arrested by using a Taser twice, but he got back up and started swinging his fists at the Officer. The Officer then used pepper spray which made the second suspect walk away.
Officer Matthew Backer caught up with the second suspect and he started punching Officer Backer and then Officer Backer’s ankle was broken during this encounter. Officer Backer was on the ground awaiting transport by medical personal to a hospital. At which time another Officer was injured putting this second suspect into custody.

August 4, 2021 – Blackfoot, Idaho

Around 8am an incident which began as a hit and run wreck near the Methodist church on the 100 block of South University Avenue in Blackfoot ended in a Deputy being shot. Deputies pursued the suspect vehicle which stopped on South Shilling between Rich and Smith. After the suspect vehicle stopped there was an exchange, and a Deputy was shot.
The Deputy who was wounded was rushed to the hospital.

July 4, 2021 – Bridgeport, Connecticut

Around 9:30pm an Officer was involved in a crash at the intersection of West Ave and State Street. The Officer was transported to Saint Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

San Diego County Sheriff's Office
July 3, 2021 – San Diego, California

Deputy David Faiivae was a trainee at the scene of the arrest on July 3 when he was exposed to the deadly opioid Fentanyl. Deputy Faiivae was processing evidence during their first call of the day. There is a video online showing Deputy Faiivae collapse to the ground after finding a stash of a white powdery substance identified as Fentanyl while searching a vehicle.
Deputy Faiivae was administered Narcan to counteract the effects and take to a local hospital.

August 1, 2021 – Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Around 1am a Deputy attempted to stop a motor vehicle for traveling 62 mph in a 25-mph zone in the City of Lake Geneva and the driver exhibited signs of impairment. The driver did not stop and increased speeds more than 100 mph traveling north on Highway 120. Deputy Wayne Blanchard was on Highway 120 north of Kniep Road in the Town of Spring Prairie, monitoring the radio transmissions of the pursuit. He took a position behind a guardrail and was prepared to deploy stop sticks. As the vehicle approached the driver began to lose control along the shoulder of the northbound traffic lane. The driver struck the guardrail, injuring Deputy Blanchard.
Deputy Blanchard was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

August 6, 2021 – Oconto Falls, Wisconsin

The Officer was responding to several hang-up calls to 911 from the 100-block of W. Elm St. Information was gathered that there may be a hostage situation, and multiple agencies responded and found the Officer with a gunshot wound.
The Officer was in stable condition after being airlifted to a Green Bay hospital.

July 23, 2021 – Jacksonville, Florida

Around 7:30pm LT Sonja Chapman was stopped near the Buckman Bridge on a traffic stop. Shortly after her stop a DUI slammed his truck into the back of her patrol vehicle. Moments before this accident the suspect DUI had hit another vehicle and left the scene.
LT Chapman was seriously injured from the crash and transported to the hospital.

July 5, 2021 – Houston, Texas

Houston Police Officers responded to a disturbance call about 11am at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Northpines Drive near Loop 494. A woman had called 911 and said she'd been in a dispute with a neighbor over a parking spot. Two Houston Officer went to get a statement from the suspect about the dispute, and while they were standing in the doorway, a man came out and started firing multiple times.
One Officer was hit in the arm and torso and was taken HCA Kingwood Hospital for treatment.
We provide this quilt to this Officer to give him comfort while he recovers.

July 3, 2021 – Columbus, Ohio

Around 10am Deputy Jesse Allen was running Code 3 to a report of an active fight with weapons where a woman was reported to have a gun. Deputy Allen entered an intersection with lights on and a crash occurred near Barks Road and Crescent Heights Road.
Deputy Allen was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

July 19, 2021 – Tucson, Arizona

Around 3:45pm Tucson Fire crews were sent to extinguish a house fire in the 2100 block of East Irene Vista near South Kino Parkway and East 36th Street, while a team of medics were responding to a medical emergency at Quincie Douglas Park for an unrelated medical call. The responding fire crew reported a vehicle was following them to the fire. The medics were flagged down by a suspect who pointed in the direction of the house fire and then began shooting and shot both medics. Then, the suspect drove up to the scene of a nearby house fire and began shooting at firefighters and neighbors trying to douse the flames.
In all, two EMTs, one firefighter and two neighbors — one of whom died — were shot.

July 19, 2021 – El Paso, Texas

Special Traffic Investigations was called to North Loop and Lancaster on a two-vehicle collision involving a marked police vehicle. Investigators learned a full crew police unit was traveling east at the 9100 block of North Loop Dr., responding to a call for service. The other vehicle was northbound on Lancaster Dr. The driver of the citizen vehicle disregarded a stop sign and entered the intersection into the path of oncoming traffic. The police vehicle struck that vehicle, skidded across all lanes of traffic, and crashed into a rock wall.
The Officers were transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

July 19, 2021 – Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Police were in the area of North Sixth and Radnor streets around 1:30am while investigating a report of gunshots being fired. A vehicle not related to the investigation drove through the scene and hit Officer Brandon Remington’s Patrol Vehicle which was being used to secure the area.
Officer Remington was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries from the crash.

July 17, 2021 - Wise, Virginia

Around 3 pm near the intersection of Dunbar Road and Pine Branch Road in the Appalachia area search efforts were underway for two missing juveniles. As Deputies were searching in the area, Deputy Rob Robinson observed a vehicle parked in some bushes with two people inside. The male passenger exited the vehicle, and an altercation began were the suspect stabbed Deputy Robinson.
Deputy Robinson was flown to Johnson City Medical Center where he is being treated for multiple stab wounds.

July 5, 2021 – North Brunswick, New Jersey
Around 11pm Officer Jacob Geyer was parked on the right side of the highway to investigate a two-car collision and had just re-entered his vehicle when it was struck under the Milltown Road overpass.
Officer Geyer was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of his injuries.

Summit County Sheriff’s Office
July 4, 2021 – Park City, Utah

Sgt Crnich was patrolling on the Weber River Trail of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest on horseback along with a partner. The pair were patrolling east of Oakley when Sgt Crnich’s horse slipped on a boulder and started to fall down a ledge. Sgt Crnich tried to jump clear but the horse rolled on top of him and broke several ribs and vertebrae in his back.
After the fall, the other deputy radioed for help and three helicopters mobilized to the scene. One delivered search-and-rescue crew members to load Crnich onto a stretcher to be airlifted. He was hoisted to a nearby meadow where a waiting medical helicopter transported him to a hospital in the Salt Lake Valley.

July 5, 2021 – Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Around 12:30am two Milwaukee Police Officers had a suspect throw an explosive device at them in the 1200 block of North Water Street. The device is believed to be a powerful pyrotechnic.
The two Officers were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

July 16, 2021 – Joliet, Montana

A two-person engine crew which included Firefighter Dan Steffenson was attacking the Harris fire when the wind shifted direction and the fire overtook the crew.
Firefighter Steffenson suffered severe burn injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance, then flown to Salt Lake City for treatment.
We send this quilt to provide comfort while he continues his long road of recovery.

Las Vegas Metro Police Department
July 4, 2021 – Las Vegas, Nevada

Round 1:30am a man had pushed a security officer while attending the Illenium concert. After this altercation, he fled on foot and engaged in a chase with Las Vegas Metro Police. The suspect was non-compliant with Officers, and they struggled to get his handcuffs onto the suspect. When Officers attempted to adjust the handcuffs while holding him up against an elevator wall, the suspect was able to reach down with his left hand and grab the trigger of an Officer’s handgun. During the struggle, the suspect inserted one of his fingers into the holster and pulled the trigger of the firearm, hitting an Officer's leg. At the time of the shooting, the gun was secured in a holster that was mounted on the Officer's belt. A second Officer was injured by bullet fragments to his ankle.
Both Officers were treated at UMC hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

July 19, 2021 – Hillsboro, Oregon

Around 1:30pm multiple Hillsboro Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at 1200 block of NE 51st Avenue. Multiple people called 911 to report hearing yelling and gunfire and that a man was armed with a knife and a bat. There was also information that the man had just stabbed someone. While Officers were responding, witnesses reported that the suspect had left in an SUV. As Officer Scott Hanley arrived in the area, the SUV accelerated towards the patrol car and hit it head-on.
Officer Hanley sustained injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

July 1, 2021 – Spartanburg, South Carolina

Around 3pm Deputies responded to a shooting scene near South Cleveland Park Drive and Amelia Street. Deputies arrived to two people shot and they believed there was another victim in the house. Once Deputies arrived shots were fired at them from inside the home.
One Deputy was struck by gunfire in the arm.

July 1, 2021 – Wichita, Texas
Deputy Darrell Waddleton was responding to a non-emergency call on U.S 287 near City View Road when a vehicle hydroplaned, and he swerved to miss another vehicle. The two vehicles collided, sending the Deputy Waddleton’s patrol SUV into a berm and airborne before landing in a culvert.
Deputy Waddleton was taken to the hospital to be treated for two fractured vertebrae and a broken orbital.
We send this quilt to Deputy Waddleton to provide comfort while he recovers.

June 20, 2021 – Atlanta, Georgia

Around 1pm two Officers including Officer Khoung Thai were responding to a report of a shooting on the building’s eighth floor at the Solace on Peachtree Apartments in the 700 block of Peachtree Street, one block north of the iconic Fox Theatre. The Officers rode the elevator up, and as the door opened on the eighth floor the suspect immediately began shooting at them.
Officer Thai was struck in the shoulder and the face. Officer Thai was carried outside by fellow Officers and rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.
A Quilts for Cops volunteer presented this quilt along with fellow Officers to Officer Thai yesterday. We hope it provides him comfort while he continues to recover.

June 12, 2021 – Salem, Oregon

Around 9pm Deputy Bryce Mintz was driving on Cordon Road with his lights and siren on when they were struck head-on by a car at Cordon Road NE near Ward Drive NE. The other car had pulled into Deputy Mintz’s lane to pass vehicles yielding to the emergency vehicle.
Deputy Mintz was transported from the scene by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

July 4, 2021 – Cherokee, South Carolina


Around 7am a crash occurred during a pursuit. Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol were in pursuit of a fleeing vehicle for speeding on Interstate 85. After a brief pursuit, the pursuit was terminated by SCHP. Moments later, Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle off of Northbound Interstate 85 near Exit 95 and pursued the vehicle onto SC 18 to U.S. Highway 29. Deputies continued the pursuit toward Cowpens on US 29 and terminated the pursuit at the Spartanburg County Line. During that pursuit another vehicle disregarded a traffic signal at the intersection of Logan Street and Floyd Baker Boulevard in Gaffney and Deputy Sardarius Henderson lost control of the vehicle before striking a utility pole and overturning.
Deputy Henderson was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries. K9 Loki was transported to an emergency veterinarian clinic and underwent surgery.

July 2, 2021 – Dayton, Ohio

Trooper Charles Barnette had stopped a vehicle for speeding and was standing on the passenger side of that vehicle when a drunk driver struck the vehicle Trooper Barnette was stopped with, which subsequently struck Trooper Barnette and slammed him into the concrete wall on US-35 in Dayton, Ohio.
Quilt for Cops volunteer Ellen Eveland delivered and presented this quilt to the department.

Wyoming Highway Patrol
June 25, 2021 – Lander, Wyoming

A Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper and suspect were seriously injured during a traffic stop around 1526 hrs. The incident occurred on Sinks Canyon Road in Lander, Wyoming. The Trooper conducted a traffic stop and moments into the stop the Trooper and suspect exchanged gunfire. The Trooper was injured.
We provided a quilt to the injured Trooper and hope that it provides comfort while they recover.
K9 Kuno

July 27, 2021 – Paw Paw, Michigan

K9 Kuno was stabbed during an apprehension of a wanted felon. K9 Kuno underwent emergency surgery and was able to return home to recover. K9 Kuno's actions undoubtedly saved multiple deputies lives.
We send this quilt to K9 Kuno to give him a nice place to rest while he recovers.

June 29, 2021 - Hebbronville, Texas

Recently, deputies followed what they thought was a FedEx truck through Hebbronville. Video evidence shows that once the truck stops, it was not driving around delivering packages but instead was loaded down with over a dozen immigrants. The department would later find out that the truck was part of a cartel smuggling operation and was only painted to look official.
The occupants bailed out of the van and ran over Chief Deputy Reys Espinoza like a stampede, and he ended up with a broken rib.

Smith County Sheriff’s Office
June 29, 2021 – Tyler, Texas

Around 3pm Smith County Investigators, while conducting surveillance in the area of the Pilot Truck Stop located at FM 14 and Interstate 20, observed a suspect known to have outstanding felony arrest warrants. Several members of the Smith County SWAT Team and Investigators with the Special Investigations Unit attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect then fled the location in his vehicle, striking a SWAT Team member and knocking him to the pavement.
