February 20, 2021 – Tolland, Connecticut
Around 3pm State Police received a 911 call reporting several people attempting to steal vehicles in the area of Kozley Road in Tolland. As Troopers were responding to the area, a second caller on Williams Way reported that he had interrupted a burglary in his garage and that one of the suspects pulled a firearm on him when he approached them. He was able to give a vehicle description and license plate, which came from a vehicle that was stolen from Newington. A few minutes later, Trooper Kevin Hoyt saw the car traveling south on Old Stafford Road. Trooper Hoyt turned around to follow the vehicle and the suspect fled at a high rate of speed. On Tolland Green, the suspect vehicle left its lane of travel and drove head-on at Trooper Hoyt, who was traveling north. The suspect intentionally struck the cruiser at a high rate of speed and both vehicles came to a final rest off the road.
Trooper Hoyt was injured and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Connecticut State Police – Troop E
January 3, 2021 – Jewett City, Connecticut
Around 12:15pm Troopers were called to the area of Kinsman Hill Rd in Lisbon for reports of a motor vehicle accident. Before they arrived, they were told that a red Chevy Cruz left the scene of the crash. Shortly after that call, Trooper John Martin saw a car matching the description of the evading vehicle traveling towards Jewett City. Trooper Martin activated his lights and sirens to attempt to stop the vehicle traveling in his direction. The driver struck Trooper Martin’s patrol vehicle to evade the stop.
Trooper Martin sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.

Whitestown Metro Police Department
February 9, 2021 – Whitestown, Indiana

Statement from Whitestown Metro PD Facebook page:
Around 1:00 am, three WMPD officers conducted a traffic stop on I-65 near the 131 mm northbound. During the stop and roadside investigation, a white sedan traveling northbound struck a WMPD Patrol Vehicle, which resulted in multiple secondary crashes involving all police vehicles at the scene.
Two WMPD officers, the driver of the suspect vehicle, and the passenger of the vehicle that was initially stopped were all immediately transported to area hospitals for moderate to severe injuries. One WMPD officer was released on the scene.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office
February 26, 2021 – Battle Creek, Michigan
Around 9:30am a suspect had gone to the office of Community Corrections for a drug test as part of his bond conditions. The suspect failed the test and Deputies were going to take him into custody for violating his bond. He bolted past them and ran through a set of double doors at the front of the building. A Deputy anticipating, he might run, was between the two sets of doors and when the suspect flung open the first door it shattered and knocked the Deputy to the floor.
The Deputy was unconscious briefly and also suffered a shoulder injury and some cuts from the glass and glass in her eye.

Deputy Madison Fleck
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
March 12, 2021 – Monroe Township, Michigan
Around 7:45am Deputy Madison Fleck was traveling westbound on Dunbar Road while responding to an emergency call. Deputy Fleck drove through the intersection of Dunbar Road and Dixie Highway and was struck on the passenger side by a pickup truck that was traveling southbound on S. Dixie Highway. Officials say the truck was driven by a member of the Monroe Township Fire Department, who was responding to the same emergency.
Deputy Fleck was conscious, and alert following the crash and was transported to the hospital.

Kansas City Police Department
March 15, 2021 – Kansas City, Missouri
Officers were searching for a man wanted for a stop order tied to an active aggravated assault investigation. Officers had identified the suspect inside a BP gas station. When two Officers went to arrest the suspect inside the gas station a fight broke out. More Officers arrived to assist the first two Officers in struggle to arrest the suspect. During the struggle, the suspect got his own handgun out and shot one of the Officers in the leg.
The Officer was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
This quilt was hand delivered by local Quilt for Cops volunteers. We hope it gives the Officer some comfort while he recovers.
Officer Bill Zimmerman
Castle Rock Police Department
February 28, 2021 – Toutle, Washington
Around 11pm Officer Bill Zimmerman attempted to pull over a van on Spirit Lake Memorial Highway near Seaquest State Park, but the vehicle sped eastbound toward Toutle instead. The driver of the van stopped on the highway, reversed, struck Officer Zimmerman’s patrol car, and continued to flee, then repeated the actions, disabling the patrol vehicle.
Officer Zimmerman suffered a fractured vertebra and a concussion during the incident.

Runnels County Sheriff’s Office
February 24, 2021 – Ballinger, Texas
Runnels County Sheriff’s Office received information from a citizen about a suspicious individual trying to sell tools from the back of his van. That morning a work trailer had been burglarized outside Rowena and many tools were stolen. Deputies located the vehicle parked at the IGA store in Ballinger a short time later and the vehicle left the parking lot and traveled East on Highway 67. A traffic stop was done on the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 83 and F.M. 382 just North of Ballinger. It was determined the vehicle had been stolen out of Austin. When the suspect was asked to exit the vehicle, the driver placed the vehicle in gear to drive away.
Deputy Jeff Tarr attempted to prevent the vehicle from getting away, however was drug approximately 50-75 feet before he could untangle himself from the driver and fell to the roadway. Deputy Tarr sustained several broken bones, bruises, cuts and scrapes.

California Highway Patrol
February 19, 2021 – Tulare County, California
In the morning Sequoia park staff were alerted that a man had brandished a knife at a family following an argument near Big Trees Trail in the Giant Forest. The family fled after the argument escalated and the man pulled a pistol. The suspect fled down Hwy 198, eventually stopping at a Chevron in Three Rivers on Sierra Drive. The suspected opened gunfire and attempted an armed robbery at the Chevron before fleeing from Deputies at the scene. Two Cal Fire investigators happened to be in the area and stopped the suspect’s vehicle at a nearby bridge. When the man exited the vehicle, he immediately began shooting at the agents. As the suspect approached the Exeter area, Woodlake Police Department attempted a second traffic stop. This time, the suspect refused to yield as Police and CHP followed behind. The suspect turned off Hwy 198 onto Road 196 in rural Tulare County. He opened fire at Deputies as they tried to throw out a spike strip to slow the suspect. He lost control of his car a short distance down the county road and then fled on foot into a neighboring orchard.
A CHP Officer followed the suspect into the orchard. She investigated the abandoned vehicle to make sure no additional people, hostages or suspects were inside. Unbeknownst to the Officer, the suspect had snuck around the vehicle and a physical battle ensued.
The CHP Officer was shot by the suspect in the shoulder and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

California Highway Patrol
February 11, 2021 – Los Angeles, California
The CHP was notified shortly before 10am that a Toyota Prius had been involved in a crash and was blocking a westbound lane of the 10 near Normandie Avenue. A CHP Officer parked his motorcycle near the center median and began directing traffic as a tow truck driver hooked up the Prius. About 10:30am another passenger vehicle, driving in the left lane, slammed into the Officer’s motorcycle, causing it to strike the Officer and tow truck driver and knocking both of them to the ground. The vehicle also crashed into the disabled Prius before coming to a stop.
The Officer was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Las Cruces Police Department
February 15, 2021 – Las Cruces, New Mexico
Around 4pm at the Sonic Drive-In at 2925 N. Main Street Officers were conducting a welfare check on a man when it was determined they needed to take him into custody.
The man fled from the scene and ran over an Officer, causing a serious injury. The Officer was hospitalized in serious condition at Mountainview Regional Medical Center with a broken leg and other injuries.
On March 5th, the suspect was located by Mexican law enforcement in Juárez. The gun battle killed a Mexican police officer and wounded two others.
We are sorry to hear of the loss of the Mexican law enforcement officer.

Las Cruces Police Department
February 4, 2021 – Las Cruces, New Mexico
During a noon hour traffic stop of a pickup truck, that Las Cruces Police were assisting in a Homeland Security investigation, Officer Darian Jarrott was shot and killed. This occurred at milepost 101 on I-10 in Luna County near Deming. Multiple law enforcement agencies then pursued the attacker's vehicle along I-10 to the West Picacho Avenue exit in Las Cruces before there was an exchange of gunfire.
A Las Cruces police officer was shot and wounded during the exchange and was flown by helicopter to University Medical Center in El Paso with injuries.
We send our condolences to the Department and Family of Officer Darian Jarrott.

February 3, 2021 – Las Cruces, New Mexico
A traffic stop in front of the Dona Ana Park Apartments ended in the SUV suspect dragging an officer. The officer suffered a fractured leg.

February 7, 2021 – Cedar Rapids, Iowa

K9 Rio
Dayton Police Department
March 12, 2021 – Dayton, Ohio
Deputies had responded to a home after receiving several 911 calls. Around 9:30am, Deputies responded on a report that the suspect had grabbed his father and threw him onto a bench. The suspect was not at the home when Deputies arrived. A second call came around 11:45am, when someone asked for police help in locating the suspect, possibly in Brookville, where the caller said the suspect had threw personal property out a window. Police responded to the area and were unable to find the suspect once again. A third call came in around 4:30pm from family members asking for Deputies to check the welfare of the suspect and said he may be aggressive with his father and could be high on methamphetamine. Deputies responded to the home and the suspect once again was not there. The fourth and final response to the home came around 2am after Deputies received a report that the suspect stabbed his father, and that his father was bleeding from the neck. Deputies responded and attempted to take the suspect into custody and at one point the suspect ran inside the home and refused to come out, so SWAT was called. Shortly after 3:50am, the suspect exited the home yelling and swinging a knife in the air.
During the apprehension K9 Rio, suffered an injury to his leg. He was taken to MedVet in Moraine and was treated and released. Police believe either he was grazed by a bullet or shrapnel during the shooting.

Cleveland Police Department
February 1, 2021 – Cleveland, Ohio
Around 3:30pm someone reported a custody dispute involving a young boy and indicated he had been forced into a car at gunpoint. Dispatchers broadcasted the report of an abduction and Officers spotted the car involved in the incident. Officers pursued the car into downtown Cleveland where the car crashed into a Police vehicle on East 9th Street and Superior Avenue.
The Officer suffered injuries and was taken by ambulance to MetroHealth in serious condition.
We provide this quilt to this Officer to let them know we care.
Sergeant Joseph Iachetta
Albany County Sheriff’s Office
February 8, 2021 – Albany, New York
Around 6am a tractor-trailer was traveling east when the truck turned right into the Colonie Price Chopper at Colonie Plaza. Sgt Jospeh Iachetta’s patrol SUV hit the trailer and got stuck underneath it. The impact caused both doors of the patrol SUV to be knocked off.
Sgt Iachetta was unconscious for about 30 to 40 minutes before being extricated by first responders. His K9 was also extricated from the vehicle and was uninjured but was taken to a local veterinarian for a checkup.
Sgt Iachetta was taken to Albany Medical Center where he underwent multiple surgeries.
We send this quilt to give Sgt Iachetta some comfort while he continues to recover.
Deputy Austin Eldridge
Desoto County Sheriff’s Office
February 6, 2021 – Desoto County, Mississippi
Around 8:30pm Deputy Austin Eldridge was assisting motorists with flat tires, after several had run across debris on I-269 just east of the Laughter road exit. While Deputy Eldridge was out assisting motorists a DUI driver hit him, pinned him between his vehicle and their vehicle.
Deputy Eldridge suffered major injuries to both legs and was airlifted to Regional One.
Update: March 12, Deputy Eldridge was able to return home to complete his recovery after both his legs were injured. One leg had to be amputated.
We provide this quilt to give Deputy Eldridge some comfort while he continues to recover.
Deputy William “Tommy” Toney
Nash County Sheriff’s Officer
February 4, 2021 – Greenville, North Carolina
Around 9:30 am on I-95 southbound, north of Rocky Mount at mile marker 145 a Nash County criminal addiction unit was working traffic on I-95 when a vehicle went by that was speeding and had no tags. A Deputy then stopped the vehicle to issue a warning citation but when they handed the Deputy their driver’s license it was a forged license. The Deputy made the determination that there was criminal activity and called a K9 unit to assist. Deputy William “Tommy” Toney, a K9 handler, came up to the vehicle and asked the driver to get out of the car. The suspect instead had started a conversation with Deputy Toney and then the suspect pulled out a firearm and started shooting, striking Toney several times.
Deputy Toney was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he was taken into surgery.

Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office
February 14, 2021 – Big Rapids, Michigan
A suspect was refusing to return snowmobiles to their legal owner which resulted in law enforcement being called to the suspects residence. When Deputies arrived, he assaulted them while refusing orders, and resisted arrest.
One Deputy suffered a broken bone that required treatment.

January 15, 2021 – North Babylon, New York
Around 2 pm at the intersection of Woods Roads and Elkton Lane a vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a police vehicle driven by Officer Deirdre Kelleher. The vehicle then hit a house and caught on fire.
Officer Kelleher was transported by the Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
We send this quilt to Officer Kelleher to provide her comfort.
Trooper Scott Cunningham

February 3, 2021- Frisco, Colorado
Later in the afternoon, Trooper Scott Cunningham was parked on the side of I-70 near Frisco following up from a previous traffic stop. His patrol vehicle was rear-ended by a DUI while parked.
Trooper Cunningham sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital.
We provided this quilt to Trooper Cunningham to let him know we care.

Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office
February 12, 2021- Waterloo, Iowa
Around 8:45 am there were slick conditions on all roadways when a semi collided with Deputy Anthony Nai’s patrol vehicle. Deputy Nai was conscious and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Chula Vista Fire Department
January 26, 2021 – Chula Vista, California

A blaze started around 5:30pm on the second floor at Action Footwear and Apparel off H Street west of Broadway. More than 70 firefighters from Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, and Imperial Beach worked to extinguish the blaze. According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, Chula Vista was hit by gusts as strong as 40 mph which made the fire difficult to control. Fire from the store ignited a utility pole in the alley behind the building, causing an electrical transformer to explode, which knocked down power lines. Then the roof failed and strong winds blew into the building and helped spread the fire even more.
Four firefighters were injured trying to fight this fire. One suffered second degree burns, two others suffered burns and a fourth broke his ankle.
We send these quilts to these firefighters to give them comfort while they recover.

K9 Scout

December 25, 2020 – Jonesboro, Georgia
K9 Deputy Jamal Hunter received a call from his family while he was working that their house in Gwinnett County had caught on fire. Gwinnett firefighters did everything they could to save the home, but it has been deemed a total loss.
Deputy Hunter’s K9 Scout was injured in the fire and had burns on his feet. K9 Scout may need surgery to tend to his burns.
We sent this quilt to K9 Scout to let him know we care.

El Paso Police Department
December 12, 2020 – El Paso, Texas
In the Segundo Barrio around 12:30am at the intersection of South Campbell Street and Seventh Avenue near Armijo Park a driver accelerated toward three bicycle patrol Officers. The Officers were approaching the vehicle after it had slowed down in the intersection.
The car hit two of the patrol bicycles injuring Officer Arthur Jeddery, who was taken to the hospital with leg fractures.
We sent this quilt to provide comfort while Officer Jeddery recovers.

K9 Arlo
Thurston County Sheriff’s Office
January 14, 2021 – Olympia, Washington

Information courtesy of Thurston County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit Facebook page: Thurston County Deputies along with Washington State Patrol Troopers were involved in a vehicle pursuit which ended on I-5 south at mile post 88. K-9 Arlo was shot twice during the incident and was rushed to the Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services and River Bend Pet Center. K9 Arlo first had emergency surgery to have a bullet in his shoulder removed and the bullet path (through and through) in his left rear leg irrigated to try to get out the remaining bullet fragments that did not pass through with the bullet. K9 Arlo came out of his first surgery where it was discovered that the bullet is lodged near his spine. A second surgery at Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine - Oregon State University was done. The extent of K9 Arlo’s injuries were a fractured vertebrae and a fractured scapula. After his temperature, which was over 104 degrees was brought down, the medical staff all participated in multiple surgeries on K9 Arlo. The surgeons removed the bullet from near his spine, fused his C-5, C-6 and C-7 Vertebrae together with a screws and cement. They also removed bone fragments from his spine and areas surrounding.
Update January 18: 10:30 AM K9 Arlo was released from OSU Veterinary Hospital and headed for home. Nearly the entire trip home K9 Arlo and Deputy Turpin had a Police Escort with lights and sirens, starting from OSU by the OSU PD. When Deputy Turpin and K9 Arlo arrived home, they were greeted by neighbors, friends, firefighters, fellow K9 handlers from multiple organizations from local and surrounding counties and a multitude of law enforcement officers from all local agencies and surrounding county and police agencies.
We are happy to hear K9 Arlo is out home resting and getting stronger every day.

Metro Police Department
December 12, 2020 – Washington DC
Riots erupted in the area of 11th Street Northwest and F Street Northwest, about four blocks west of the White House. Several people were stabbed or otherwise injured.
A Metro Police Officer was hit by a brick which caused facial fractures and was taken to the hospital.
We sent this quilt to let this Officer know we care.

Brooklyn Park Police Department
December 11, 2020 – Brooklyn Park, Minnesota
Around 10pm Officer had responded to a residence in the 6500 block of Georgia Avenue North on a domestic disturbance report involving a male who had an order for protection against him. Officers initiated contact with the suspect who was parked at the caller's home. That was when there was an exchange of gunfire and Officer Andrew McComb was hit.
Officer McComb was treated at North Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound.
We provided this quilt to give Officer McComb some comfort while he recovered.
Officer Rich Riley
Montgomery Police Department
January 9, 2021 - Montgomery, Ohio
Around 8:30pm law enforcement was told to be on the lookout for a driver with a history of medical issues. About 20 minutes later, a Hamilton County Deputy was driving in the 8000 block of Fields Ertel Road when he saw that the motorist drove their vehicle off the rear of the First Church of God’s parking lot and into a wooded area. The Deputy immediately saw that the driver was having a medical emergency, but the vehicle was still in drive with the engine revving and smoking while the driver was still inside unconscious. The vehicle almost immediately caught on fire. Officer Rich Riley had arrived and helped the Deputy, and both rescued the driver.
Officer Riley was treated at Bethesda North Hospital for burns to his hands and arms following the rescue.

Coryell County Sheriff’s Office
November 18, 2020 – Gatesville, Texas
Around 7pm a Deputy attempted a traffic stop in the area of FM 116 near Bald Knob Rd. During the traffic stop, the vehicle failed to stop immediately and began to travel west on Bald Knob Rd. The Deputy continued to follow when the vehicle then came to an abrupt stop on Bald Knob Rd. The Deputy then began to exit the patrol vehicle to initiate contact with the driver of the vehicle and while doing so, the driver began to exit the vehicle and then re-enter it a couple of times. Upon re-entering the vehicle on the last occasion, the driver then placed the vehicle in drive, accelerated and proceeded to flee west on Bald Knob Rd. The Deputy began to pursue the vehicle west on Bald Knob Rd. and while doing so, lost control of the patrol vehicle due to the road conditions. His patrol vehicle left the roadway in a curve and came to rest in a creek bed embankment, located on the south side of the road.
Coryell Memorial Hospital EMS responded to the scene to provide medical attention and assessment of the Deputy involved in the pursuit, who was then transported by helicopter to Baylor Scott & White in Temple for medical treatment.

Dallas Police Department
October 17, 2020 – Dallas, Texas

Around 12:30am two Officers were headed northbound in their squad car in the 2700 block of Webb Chapel Extension at Northwest Highway, just north of Bachman Lake. They were on the way to assist a fellow Officer on a shooting call. As their patrol vehicle, with emergency lights and sirens activated, entered the intersection at West Northwest Highway, a southbound pick-up truck turned left into its path. The patrol vehicle was wrapped around a utility pole.
Both Officers were taken to a local hospital for their injuries and were hospitalized.
We sent these quilts to let these Officers know we care.
Firefighter Justin Fredrickson
Cornell Area Fire Department
February 19, 2021 – Willard, Wisconsin
Firefighter Justin Fredrickson and the Cornell Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the Township of Willard. Firefighter Fredrickson was attempting to put out the flames with a hose line outside of the burning building when a loaded firearm inside suddenly discharged. The firearm discharged due to heat conditions caused by the fire. The bullet traveled through an exterior wall before striking Firefighter Fredrickson in the abdomen.
Firefighter Fredrickson was immediately treated by Sheldon EMS teams and transported to Marshfield Medical Center in Ladysmith before getting airlifted to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire where he underwent three successful surgeries.
We hope this quilt will provide Firefighter Fredrickson comfort while he recovers.

About 11:30pm on Route 66 Officer Matthew Knowlton was headed west and noticed a car headed toward him in the opposite lane at high speed, and his radar check clocked the driver at more than 70 mph in a 35 mph-zone. As the car approached Officer Knowlton it crossed the double yellow lines entering his lane and striking his cruiser as he attempted to avoid the collision. The impact demolished both cars and left Officer Knowlton with a broken leg. Officer Knowlton cut himself from his seat belt and climbed out of the driver’s side window, after which he went to the aid of the other motorist. The other driver was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. Officer Knowlton attended to the driver as best he could until she was extricated from her car by firefighters.
Officer Knowlton and the female driver were then taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

K9 Bravo

February 21, 2021 – Anoka, Minnesota

Around 1pm Officers responded to a report of a shoplifting at a Kohl’s. Officers soon located the suspects in a stolen car, but they drove off, then carjacked the driver of a pick-up truck at gunpoint and fled north on Highway 65. Officers pursued the suspects for almost 40 minutes, until the chase ended on the highway north of Braham. The suspects fled the vehicle on foot after it became disabled, and then gunfire erupted. K9 Bravo was shot and injured.
K9 Bravo was treated at University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center and is expected to survive.

February 25, 2021 – Springdale, Ohio

Officer Sarah Luken was investigating a previous crash on East Crescentville Road near Tivoli Lane around 3am. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was sitting in the backseat of Officer Luken’s police vehicle, awaiting a tow truck and a ride home.
Around 3:30 am a vehicle being driven by a impaired driver was traveling westbound on East Crescentville Road and crashed into the rear of Officer Luken’s police vehicle.
Both Officer Luken and her passenger were sent to the hospital with injuries from the collision.

Around 9:30pm Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of High Street to investigate a dispute. Officers investigated and determined that an individual would be arrested for simple assault and while taking him into custody, the suspect twisted an Officer's leg causing the Officer to fall on his right knee and injuring his knee and thumb.

Around 9:30 am an Illinois State Trooper was responding to a single-vehicle crash. While on the scene, the Trooper was behind the vehicle on the left shoulder with emergency lights activated. He was inside his patrol vehicle finishing up paperwork when another vehicle crashed into the back of his vehicle and hit the front driver side area of another vehicle that was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 53. Upon impact, the Trooper’s vehicle was forced into the left concrete median wall.
The Trooper was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

January 16, 2021 – Pearl, Mississippi

Two police vehicles were in a pursuit with a suspect near Highway 80 and Highway 49 late in the evening when another police vehicle driven by Officer Brandon Dearman had stopped to make the arrest. Officer Dearman stopped along the Highway 80 bridge westbound when the other two police vehicles came to assist as a backup. One of the officers driving to the scene did not see that the cars had already stopped and ended up crashing into the parked police vehicles.
In a Facebook post, police said, “We are relieved to let everyone know that three of our police officers involved in an accident Saturday night will be OK. One officer remains in the hospital and two others were treated and released. We thank everyone for their prayers and support.”

January 23, 2021 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Officer Braden Downs was called to a residence near Northeast 39th and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard because of a domestic issue. When he approached the door of the home, someone inside opened fire on him and he was shot in his chest and hand.
Officer Downs was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

January 17, 2021 – Battle Creek, Michigan

Around 10pm Trooper Christopher Haywood was driving west on Columbia Avenue when an impaired driver crossed the centerline and hit his patrol vehicle head-on.
Trooper Haywood was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Trooper Haywood had a successful surgery the Monday after to repair multiple fractures to his femur.We hope this quilt will give Trooper Haywood some comfort while he recovers.
Deputy Matt Sparrow
Hart County Sheriff’s Office
January 27, 2021 – Hartwell, Georgia

Deputy Matt Sparrow was driving northbound on Route 51 to a location where a reported burglary was in progress when his vehicle came into a collision with another vehicle. A second vehicle was also traveling northbound and as Deputy Sparrow came upon this vehicle and went to go around it, the vehicle made a left turn.
Deputy Sparrow’s vehicle hit the other vehicle on the driver’s side. Following the collision, the patrol vehicle bounced off the other vehicle and away from the roadway. It continued to travel along the left shoulder of the road for nearly 300 feet before the vehicle crashed into a tree and then overturned.
Deputy Sparrow sustained significant injuries in the collision and rollover incident, including broken bones. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Around 5:15pm Deputy Jonathon Franklin was in route to a accident call when he went around a curve and hit a patch of snow and slush causing him to lose control of his cruiser near the entrance to Balkan. His patrol vehicle hit a car head-on. The occupants of the car did not accept medical treatment.
Deputy Franklin was taken by Lifeguard Ambulance to a hospital.

February 3, 2021 – Las Vegas, Nevada

Around 1pm Police were dispatched to The Range 702 on Dean Martin Drive, after receiving a report of a man inside causing a disturbance at the location. Officers arrived in the parking lot and saw the man outside with other civilians stopping him from reentering the business. The Officers began calling out to the man and ordering him to the front of their patrol vehicle. The Officers then attempted to a conversation with the man. At this point, he pulled out a screwdriver and violently attacked the female Officer on scene.
The Officer was taken to University Medical Center, where she was treated and then released to recover at home.

A Denver Police Officer responded to a report of trespassing and harassment at the Comfort Suites hotel located at 620 North Federal Boulevard. While attempting to take a suspect into custody, the Officer was stabbed multiple times in the chest and leg.
The officer was transported to the hospital with serious bodily injury.

A fire crew was responding to a fire call around 5:30am about a possible structure fire at the Catholic Church in the city. The fire engine was eastbound and was involved in a rollover accident on an icy road near County Road 360 about 2 1/2 miles from the Sandia Fire Station.
Firefighter Madison Upton was transported to Spohn Hospital in Alice with a broken shoulder.

February 16, 2021 – Wadsworth, Ohio

Around 9pm a K9 officer was the first on scene of a single vehicle crash on I-76 near Route 57. The police vehicle was parked in the left lane, helping a vehicle that had rolled over onto its side. A minivan attempted to pass the police vehicle in the right lane but ended up hitting another car that then hit the police vehicle.
K9 Zoro was inside the police vehicle when it was hit. He was a bit shaken up but was uninjured.

January 18, 2021 – Sacramento, California

Around 10pm two Deputies had approached a driver in a parking lot at the Ardendale strip mall on Arden Way because the vehicle matched the description of one connected to a series of burglaries. The Deputies approached the car and spoke with the driver, who was acting strange. The Deputies identified the man behind the wheel as an active parolee. Deputies then went to search his vehicle and the parolee drove off which started a pursuit that raced into the Cal Expo complex. The pursuit was short because the suspects’ vehicle hit a curb and crashed near a chain link fence in a Cal Expo parking lot around Hurley and Ethan ways. Several other Deputies arrived to assist with apprehending the suspect. Deputies gave several commands for him to leave his vehicle, but he refused. They used bean bag rounds to shoot out his back window to see inside.
Deputy Adam Gibson released K9 Riley, into the vehicle’s broken window. The suspect fired a gun killing K9 Riley, hitting Deputy Gibson, and wounding another deputy. Deputy Gibson was taken to the hospital where he later died. The other Deputy was in serious but stable condition at UC Davis Medical Center.
We send our condolences to the family and department for the loss of Deputy Adam Gibson and K9 Riley.

Around 8pm near the area of Ranger Way and Rampart Drive Detectives had been following up on an investigation into a gang-related shooting. Detectives found a vehicle connected to the investigation with two people inside and upon contact with the vehicle multiple shots were fired striking one detective.
The Detective was taken to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition.

January 7, 2021 – Omaha, Nebraska

Officer Michael Salseda was working to redirect traffic around a crash around 6:15pm on the freeway near F Street when he was struck by a DUI driver. Officer Salseda had parked his cruiser with its emergency lights on and, while wearing a high-visibility traffic vest, was placing flares. The DUI driver was driving north and unable to stop behind the cruiser, swerved to the right, then to the left onto the shoulder where Officer Salseda was standing.
Officer Salseda was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with serious injuries.

January 6, 2021- Dell Prairie, Wisconsin

Deputies responded to the 600 block of Gulch Avenue to serve a temporary restraining order on a male suspect. As officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he became combative. During reescalation attempts the suspect was moved to the ground and given several commands to comply with orders but he kept resisting and kicking upwards with both feet.
The suspect then struck a Deputy in the ankle, causing the officer to fall to the ground. The Deputy suffered three broken bones and a torn ligament in his ankle. He was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery.

January 10, 2021 – Hopkinsville, Kentucky

Officer Timothy Humble was parked at Dawson Springs Road near the intersection of West 7th Street around 8pm when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into the back of his patrol vehicle.
Officer Humble and the suspect driver along with three passengers in the suspect vehicle were taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Officer Humble were transported to a Nashville hospital.

January 17, 2021 – Little Rock National Cemetery, Arkansas

Around 9pm Sgt Nick Brown was on patrol on Interstate 30 and attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle. The driver of the car fled along Roosevelt Road. Near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Springer Street, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled into the National Cemetery.
Sgt Brown was pursuing the suspect on foot and was impaled when he scaled a wrought iron fence. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Around 6pm Deputies were called to investigate a domestic dispute on Mooney Road. After arriving at the scene, they encountered a woman who tried to strike the Deputies with her vehicle.

Around 4:15pm an Officer was working to stop a suspect who had been involved in multiple hit and runs earlier in the day. The Officer had identified the suspect and was following him when the suspect crossed the county line. The Kansas City Officer ended the pursuit but then the suspect got out of their car and exchanged gunfire with the Officer.
The Officer was shot in the arm and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Officer Travis Gossett was on foot wearing a reflective vest and investigating a wreck at Highway 281 and Brook Hollow. While he was directing traffic, he was struck by a car. The driver that struck the Officer Gossett was not impaired but icy road conditions and failure to control their speed resulted in the crash.
Officer Gossett was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
