Officer (name withheld)
Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department
April 19, 2020 – Dallas, Texas
Police in San Antonio had been looking for a gunman in connection with his girlfriend’s fatal stabbing when Dallas Area Rapid Transit officers were alerted about 11 am that the gunman boarded the bus on Buckingham Road, between Jupiter and Shiloh roads, in Richardson and started shooting, shattering several windows. The suspect had forced the DART driver to lead police on a chase through Garland, into Rowlett, then into Rockwall and back to Rowlett. During the pursuit, the suspect fired from inside the bus at officers who were shooting back. A DART officer and a Garland officer were shot, and a Rowlett officer was injured when his window was shot out. Officers used a spike strip to disable the bus and end the chase on the President George Bush Turnpike around noon and then the suspect left the bus and was shot as he exchanged gunfire with officers.
We send this quilt to the DART officer to let him know we care.
Corporal Derrick Maglone
Baton Rouge Police Department
April 26, 2020 – Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Around 9:30 am, the suspect’s girlfriend was inside a home on North Pamela Drive when she heard her car horn beeping, so she stepped outside and saw the suspect (her boyfriend). The woman went back inside, at which point the suspect kicked down the door and pistol-whipped her. The woman’s mother stopped the beating, but witnesses said the suspect went outside and came back in with an assault rifle. He then used the rifle to fatally shoot the girlfriend’s stepfather.
Lt Glenn Dale Hutto and Corporal Derrick Maglone, who were part of the team working the homicide of the stepfather, were acting on tips that the suspect was hiding in a home in the 3100 block of Conrad Drive in the city’s Howell Park neighborhood, about five and a half miles from where they were. They, along with other officers, arrived there around 12:30 pm to speak with the suspect. Lt Hutto and Cpl Maglone went around to the backyard to ensure the suspect did not flee from a back door and were shot as they attempted to contact him. Both were rushed to Our Lady of the Lake.
Sadly, Lt Hutto was killed and Cpl Maglone was critically injured.
Evidence at the scene and close-contact wounds on Lt Hutto’s body indicate the suspect stood over Lt Hutto’s body as he lay on the ground and continued firing bullets into him. The suspect was arrested at the Conrad Drive scene more than three hours after Lt Hutto and Cpl Maglone were shot. The suspect engaged in a standoff with SWAT officers and barricaded himself inside the house.
We send all our best to the department and family for the loss of Lt Hutto.💙
We provide this quilt to Cpl Maglone to give some comfort while he recovers.
