While out of his patrol vehicle, with his emergency lights activated, a semi truck and trailer ran into the rear of Miner's patrol vehicle causing it to go into the ditch. The semi then struck the trailer of the vehicle Deputy Miner was assisting, causing the semi’s fuel tank to rupture which resulted in diesel fuel being spilled throughout the accident scene.
Both vehicles in front of the patrol unit caught fire. All occupants were able to remove themselves from the vehicles except for a two-year old male and four-year old female who were properly restrained in car seats in the vehicle located directly in front of Miner’s patrol unit. Deputy Miner entered the vehicle and cut the male child out of his car seat and handed him to one of the adults. He then reached across the seat and cut the female child out of her car seat. As Miner was removing the child, he realized his trousers were on fire and placed the child on the ground and attempted to extinguish the flames. One of the adults assisted Deputy Miner and smothered the flames. The semi continued westbound and entered the ditch past the other vehicles and caught fire as well. The semi driver was able to extricate himself from his vehicle.
Deputy Miner suffered minor burns when he rescued the two children. He was transported to Phillips County Hospital and is being referred to another facility for treatment of his injuries.
Of the nine victims involved, Deputy Miner is the only one to suffer injuries. There were no fatalities.
“We’re all amazed that this situation turned out the way it did”, said Sheriff Radabaugh. “There are two children who are alive and well today because their parents had the foresight to properly restrain them in their car seats. Car seats and seatbelts save lives".

At about 8:45p.m., officers observed participants carrying shields, wearing body armor and helmets. The posture of the gathering suggested that it would become violent, as many such gatherings have been over the past 120-plus days. While they were performing their lawful duties, some in the crowd interfered and were arrested.
